Has Britain lost its grip on the art of satire?

While we might have invented the medium, like football, cricket and rugby, we’ve ceded dominion to other nations. Witness the ever-brilliant Onion - miles ahead of 99 per cent of British comedy writing, even its imaginary weekend magazine is a stroke of brilliance.

British satire isn't dead. It just smells funny.

Let's hope Headcases - billed as the 'new Spitting Image' - will bring back a sparkle of brilliance.
A CGI-animated Brown and Cameron will be joined by a cast including Pete Doherty, Amy Winehouse, Bob Geldof and Seb Coe.
And instead of singing along to 'Hold a chicken in the air', expect to hear that children's favourite: 'Old Mugabe has a farm'.
